A dimly lit loft space with late night jams
91/1-2 ถนน Mueang Chiang Mai District, Chiang Mai 50200
Everyone knows North Gate Jazz Co-Op — the legendary ground-floor jazz bar that’s been packing in crowds since 2008. Few realise that four floors above it sits its quieter, more introspective sibling.
Established in 2020 to mark the Co-Op’s thirteenth anniversary, Arkive is Por’s secret upstairs. The design blends vintage speakeasy details with Lanna rice barn textures — raw urban surfaces, warm lighting, handmade details everywhere. The rooftop setting gives you panoramic views of the old city walls that nobody at street level knows exist.
The atmosphere is low-key but soulful. Live music runs in two intimate sets — 7:30pm and midnight — with local and international musicians playing close-up acoustic, jazz, and blues. This is not the volume and energy of the Co-Op downstairs. This is the after-hours room for people who want to listen, not shout.
The cocktails reflect the building’s DNA. The Summer in Arkive — house-distilled North Gate rice spirit, mango, and coconut — is the signature for good reason. The whiskey sour, made with smooth Thai whiskey and fresh lemon, is a crowd favourite for anyone who wants something familiar done right.
What to order: Summer in Arkive. It’s the house spirit in its best form.
Best for: The second act. Come here after the energy of the Co-Op downstairs, or as a quieter alternative for people who want music without the crowd.
