“Enter at your own risk.”
That’s the neon sign greeting you as you squeeze through a narrow walkway between two shophouses on Nimman, climb two flights of stairs, and push open a bookshelf. If you don’t know by now, Chiang Mai bars have a thing for difficult entrances. But The Continental earns its theatricality.
Named after the fictional hotel from the John Wick films — the one that shelters assassins under a code of absolute discretion — the bar commits fully to its concept without tipping into costume party. Inside is pure film noir: a dark, polished bar, leather seats, velvet curtains, and private corners designed for conversations you don’t want overheard. The soundtrack is Postmodern Jukebox — vintage jazz covers of modern songs that match the atmosphere perfectly.
The cocktails are where the concept becomes craft. Each drink is inspired by elements from the franchise — characters, locations, even the dog. Behind the bar is Earth, the Thai World Class Cocktail Champion of 2023, supported by co-founders Amber, Chochun, and Zen — four friends who conceived the bar during the pandemic as an escape into cinema. The drinks are theatrical in presentation but genuinely excellent in execution, balancing fruity and savoury flavours with a precision that justifies the premium pricing.
One thing to know: The Continental is cash only or Thai QR code. No international credit cards. Come prepared.
What to order: Ask the bartender to pick based on your mood. The themed menu is half the fun — let them guide you through the story.
Best for: Film buffs. Couples. Anyone who wants their evening to feel like a scene from a movie they’d actually want to be in.
